MACOMB, IL -- One month from today, watch dreams come true and miracles take place as the fifth annual Western Illinois University Dance Marathon gets underway.

Beginning at noon Saturday, Feb. 24, WIU students, faculty and staff, community residents and Children's Miracle Network Hospital families will join together in the annual Dance Marathon at Western, which raises funds for Children's Miracle Network hospitals St. Louis Children's Hospital and SSM Health Cardinal Glennon.

Members of the University and area communities are invited to participate in the WIU Dance Marathon, which runs from noon to midnight Feb. 24. The 12-hour event honors the 12-hour shifts of doctors and nurses, as well as children who are unable to stand.

"It is truly amazing to see our campus and regional communities come together to support this event," said Nick and Ashley Katz, Dance Marathon advisers. "If you've never witnessed Dance Marathon in person, we encourage you to come out to see for yourselves the sheer magnitude of this event and what it means to the families whose children have been treated at Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Our students are simply phenomenal and give this event their all."

This year's goal is $150,000. Donations are welcome, and may be made by visiting tinyurl.com/yc4oe9dr or emailing dancemarathon@wiu.edu. Last year's event raised $123,200.

"WIUDM will always hold a special place in my heart, from the first time I participated as a board member for the first Dance Marathon in 2014 to sharing my story for five consecutive years," said Nick Hesford, a 2014 and 2017 WIU graduate from Winfield, IA. "Western will always feel like home and the Dance Marathon makes me so proud. It is bigger then what we will ever know, and that's why it it so important to not only me, but to the many families who benefit from incredible event."
