MACOMB, IL -- High school sophomores, juniors and seniors from a 10-county area adjacent to Western Illinois University can experience Leatherneck pride first-hand at a reception with WIU President Jack Thomas, followed by a Summit League Champions WIU Leatherneck Women's Basketball game, Wednesday, Feb. 7.

Sponsored by WIU Admissions, the meet-and-greet reception for prospective college students, as well as those high school seniors from the region who have been admitted to WIU for Fall 2018, will be held from 5-7 p.m. Feb. 7 at the University Residence on the Macomb campus. The basketball game begins at 7 p.m. in Western Hall. Each student will receive complimentary tickets to the game for himself/herself and two guests.

Sophomores, juniors and seniors from high schools in Adams, Brown, Cass (Beardstown), Fulton, Hancock, Henderson, Knox, McDonough, Pike, Schuyler and Warren are invited to attend the Feb. 7 event.

"This reception is a wonderful opportunity to experience Western and all the great things we have to offer. From academic programs to campus services, our local students can see for themselves that Western is the right choice for their success," said Melissa Telles, interim associate director of admissions.

Reservations for the Feb. 7 reception must be made by Monday, Feb. 5. To register, visit wiu.edu/presidentsreception.

The University has also provided additional incentives for local students interested in Western, including waiving the University's $30 application fee for those graduating seniors who apply for admission to Western for the Fall 2018 semester.

Western also hosts Monday through Saturday visits on the Macomb campus for prospective students, including open house programs Feb. 19 and April 7.
