MACOMB, IL -- A fundraising campaign by the WIU Department of Kinesiology and the University's fire science program is raising money to buy equipment to aid in firefighter testing.

The money will be used to by a ClimbMill machine, a type of stair master, which will prepare future firefighters to pass the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT). Additional funds raised will be used to help the WIU Department of Kinesiology to become a CPAT national testing center for firefighter trainees.

The equipment will also be used as part of a kinesiology course to provide real-life experience to exercise science students who plan to become Certified Strength and Conditional Specialists or Tactical Strength and Conditioning Facilitators, who train military, fire and rescue, law enforcement, protective services and other emergency personnel to improve performance, promote wellness and decrease injury risk.

The effort has already raised $1,195 of its $5,000 goal, and an anonymous donor has agreed to match donations up to $5,000.
