MOLINE- Western Illinois University-Quad Cities will host "Words and Music: The Art of Songwriting," a program designed for high school students in grades 9-12 who are interested in learning about the music industry and songwriting. The program will be held from 8:30 a.m. -3:30 pm, June 11-15. Music professors and professional singer/songwriters will lead the students using University facilities and the local music community to allow students to explore the writing process as well as the marketing and promotion of music.

Students and instructors complete a song by the end of the week and are encouraged to perform their work for the University community. As part of the program, professors in Music Business instruct on music promotion, copywriting, and marketing in the music industry and introduce students to potential career paths. Field trips to Daytrotter Recording Studio and Graveyard Studios are included in the list of activities. In addition, participants will hear from an Artists Repertoire (A&R) representative about finding and bringing new recording artists into a record label.

Students are encouraged to bring one to two songs with lyrics from their favorite artist to discuss during the program.
