WIU-QC to Offer “Muggles in a Wizard’s World” Summer Camp

MOLINE- Western Illinois University-Quad Cities will offer "Muggles in a Wizard's World: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," a summer camp for grades 5-7, from July 9-13 on the WIU-QC campus, 3300 River Drive, Moline.

Under the instruction of faculty and staff from WIU-QC and the Moline Public Library, students expand their enjoyment of the Harry Potter series while developing their critical thinking and creative skills.

New and returning students will delve into "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" to consider script and screen, settings, characters, and real and mythological creatures, including snakes, spiders, and the phoenix. They will write and create Reader's Theater scripts and enjoy games of Quidditch, Dueling Wands, and chess. Activities include a field trip to Nahant Marsh as well as the opportunity to create wizard's hats, howlers, and other art projects.

Enrollment is limited to 24 students and participants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Early registration is strongly encouraged. The registration fee is $275 and includes classroom instruction, lunch, supplies, field trips, and a copy of "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets."
