MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Chapter of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi has kicked off its fifth annual book drive, which runs through Monday, April 16.

Collection boxes have been placed at Macomb City Hall and on the WIU campus in Waggoner, Stipes, Morgan, Browne and Sallee halls and at the WIU Library.

The WIU chapter has set a goal of 1,500 books for its "Stock the Shelf," book drive competition. All of the books collected by the WIU Phi Kappa Phi chapter will be donated to organizations in Macomb such as, Heartland Health Care Center, Wesley Village Health Care Center, the WIU Infant and Preschool Center and the free little libraries at the YMCA, Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Macomb, Edison School, Library Annex and Lincoln School.

Last year, the WIU Phi Kappa Phi chapter collected more than 1,100 books and placed fourth in the nationwide competition. The prize for fourth place was a Free Little Library, which was donated to Edison School to help encourage students to explore reading.

Since the creation of Phi Kappa Phi's annual book drive competition, more than 35,000 books have been collected and donated to local, national and international organizations.
Free Little Libraries are freestanding boxes where anyone can donate or borrow books with the goal of promoting literacy throughout communities.

Anyone who would like to help the WIU Phi Kappa Phi chapter spread the love of learning in the Macomb community can donate new or lightly-used books. The chapter is also accepting cash donations to be used for book purchases. Donations can be mailed to WIU Professor Robert C. Intrieri at 156 Waggoner Hall – WIU, 1 University Circle, Macomb, IL 61455.
