First Wednesday Program April 4 at WIU

MACOMB, IL -- The Western Illinois University Department of Art will host another session of First Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 4 in Garwood Hall, the Heating Plant Annex and the University Art Gallery.

The events are open free to the public. This month's schedule includes:

Garwood Hall

• Printmaking and Kitchen Lithography, Professor Bill Howard, Garwood Hall 12 (first floor)

• Film screening of "Iowa Fairytale" and "Jazz Me Blues" by Professor Bruce Walters, Garwood Hall 10 (first floor) - Screenings begin at 7 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

• Drawing, professors Jan Clough and Julie Mahoney, Garwood Hall 20 (second floor)

• Folding Bamboo Fans, Associate Professor Ta-Teh Ku, Garwood Hall 24 (second floor)

• Clear Packing Tape Sculptures, Professor Tim Waldrop, Garwood Hall 25 (second floor)

• Palette Knife Painting, Professor Damon McArthur, Garwood Hall 30 (third floor)

• Beachy Bliss Photographs, Professor Jenny Knavel, Garwood Hall 37 (third floor) – The last photographs will be taken at 8:15 p.m. to ensure printing time


Heating Plant Annex Activities

• CNC Cutter "Rocky" Medallions, Associate Professor Duke Oursler, HPA 105

• Wire Wrapped Bead Pendants, Art Department Chair Kat Myers, HPA 107

• Wheel Throwing, Assistant Professor Ian Shelly, HPA 111

The University Art Gallery will also be open during the event, featuring the Annual Juried Student Exhibition and an exhibit by artist Eun-Kyung Suh, "Yearning for Lost Heritage."

WIU art faculty, as well as a group of University art students, have worked together to offer creative, "hands on" activities to visitors. First Wednesday has relied on numerous donations of materials from businesses like Blick Art Materials in Galesburg, IL, and monetary support from the Performing Arts Society (PAS).
