Lueck, 84, passed away March 28 in Springfield.

He also served as an assistant professor in the Department of Counselor Education and College Student Personnel. During his time at WIU, Lueck also completed his Doctor of Education Administration at Indiana University.

After graduating from high school, he served in the U. S. Army, serving on an Air Force base in England during the Korean War. He returned to Iowa State and completed a degree in agricultural education. He was a member of the WIU Library Foundation Board, Trinity Lutheran Church and the Western Illinois Museum. He had also served on the board for the Western Illinois Regional Council, and Lueck also was a member of the Genealogical Society and Historical Society, and a longtime member of the Macomb Lions Club.

Lowell, and his wife, Lois, established a scholarship at WIU specifically for non-traditional students in teacher education programs. The Luecks were non-traditional students while pursuing their advanced degrees at Western. Additionally, the Luecks have, for many years, supported the WIU Library, Tri States Public Radio, Western Athletic Club, Performing Arts Society and the College of Fine Arts and Communication. They were also inaugural donors to the President's Scholarship Fund, established in 2006.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; three children, David, Diane and Linda; nine grandchildren;
two sisters, Florence Botine and Yvonne Stevens; and many nieces and nephews.
