MACOMB, IL – The Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center (MVRBC) will hold a Minority Health Month blood drive in the Western Illinois University Union Heritage Room from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday, April 30.

Minority Health Month features nearly 20 programs and presentations throughout April, sponsored by a variety of WIU departments. The blood drive is co-sponsored by the WIU Disability Resource Center.

Blood donors provide a critical, lifesaving resource and the MVRBC serves hospitals throughout the tri-state area. A single blood donation can support up to three individuals.

The resources for this blood drive can support up to 60 participants. Blood donors who last donated on or before March 5 are eligible. Donors with tattoos are also eligible so long as the tattoo was applied in a licensed facility in a regulated state.

Donors must bring a photo ID and are encouraged to get a good night's sleep, eat and drink lots of water before they arrive. For more information on eligibility requirements, visit bloodcenter.org/default.aspx.

Though walk-in donations will be accepted, it is encouraged that donors make an appointment beforehand by contacting Eli Van Sickel at ea-vansickel@wiu.edu.
