WIU Outreach Program Offers Training Courses for Area Teachers

MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Office of Study Abroad and Outreach is offering two new programs to enrich the teaching and administrative skills of K12 instructors from across the region. 
 
The first program, a series of six courses, is coordinated with the Monmouth-Roseville School District. The cohort of 27 teachers, from the Monmouth-Roseville and Galesburg school districts, focuses on preparing them to work more effectively with students whose second language is English.
 
The second program, held at Sterling High School, is a series of 15 courses to help participants fulfill course requirements to earn a master's degree in educational leadership and a principal endorsement. There are currently 21 students enrolled in the program, which begins Sept. 8.

These two opportunities are part of WIU's Sponsored Credit Program, which takes the University to professionals who are already working in the field, while helping schools respond to present demands. These programs are taught by WIU faculty and are tailored to the schedules of participants. 

The first course for the ESL endorsement program began June 11.
