MACOMB IL -- One child in the United States dies every five minutes as a result of violence – that's one child too many.

As part of Western Illinois University's Student Development Office (SDO) interpersonal violence awareness and prevention program, the SDO will be set up in the University Union Concourse from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday-Friday, Sept. 20-21, asking the men of Western Illinois to get polished.

"Polished Man" is an international initiative that challenges men to paint one nail to raise awareness surrounding violence against children. One in five children suffers physical and/or sexual violence before the age of 18.

According to the "Polished Man" website, the "Polished Man" movement is not about pointing the finger. It's about empowerment and asking men to unite and lead by example, channeling the collective strength of masculinity to protect society's most vulnerable citizens and our future leaders.

For more information, contact SDO at (309) 298-1884 or wiu.edu/sdo.
