WIU School of Music to Present First 'Holiday Festival of Music'

MACOMB, IL - The Western Illinois University School of Music will present the first "Holiday Festival of Music" Saturday, Dec. 1 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall. There will be a 2 p.m. matinee performance and a 7:30 p.m. performance.

The event will include beautiful and inspirational holiday-themed choral and instrumental music. The concerts will feature Western Illinois University School of Music ensembles and many guests from the WIU and Macomb communities. Audience members are invited to sing-along with favorite carols and the traditional finale of the "Hallelujah Chorus" from Handel's "Messiah," complete with orchestra and organ.

This year's ensembles include the WIU Chamber Orchestra; WIU Jazz Studio Orchestra; WIU Brass Ensemble; WIU Vocal Jazz Ensemble; WIU Concert Choir; Western Illinois University Singers; the Holiday Festival Choir; the Holiday Festival of Music Children's Choir; United Voices of Western Inspirational Singers; Prairieland Barbershop Chorus; Macomb High School Madrigal Singers and Gayle Cooper, organist.

For patrons who might need a bit of assistance, there will be vans and golf carts making the rounds from the entrance of the COFAC Recital Hall to available parking in the COFAC Recital Hall/Browne Hall lot, Corbin-Olson lot and the lot across Western Avenue, adjacent to the practice field. These shuttles will begin at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., prior to each performance.

General admission tickets are $10 (free to WIU students with valid ID) and can be purchased through the Hainline Theatre Box Office, at (309) 298-2900, Monday-Friday, noon-5 p.m. Tickets are also available online at WesternPresents.com.

These performances may sell out quickly, but any remaining tickets will be available at the door.
