MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Western Illinois University faculty and staff are invited to take part in a discussion/skill development workshop focused on the student experience to ensure a more equitable and inclusive campus culture.

The half-day "Moving Forward: Commitment to Equity & Inclusion" workshops will be held from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9 for Quad Cities faculty and staff in the QC Complex 1102 on the Riverfront campus; from 9 a.m.-noon Friday, Jan. 10 for Macomb staff in the University Union Grand Ballroom on the Macomb campus; and from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Jan. 10 for Macomb faculty in the Ballroom.

The half-day session will feature discussions, skill-building, and open conversation about creating equitable and inclusive educational environments.

"In many cases diversity trainings focus on teaching best practices through lecture and passive engagement. Instead, we're interested in having conversations about how we can all move forward together toward equity and inclusion for our students at Western Illinois University," said Facilitator Tracy Davis, a professor in the WIU Department of Counselor Education and College Student Personnel.

The event is coordinated by the WIU Office of Equal Opportunity and Access with assistance from Expanding Cultural Diversity Project at WIU, Center for the Innovation in Teaching and Research and the Department of Counselor Education and College Student Personnel, and funding support from The Office of the President.

"We encourage all faculty and staff to attend and be part of moving WIU forward," added Interim/President Martin Abraham"We must continue to build support for equity and inclusion, and these workshops are a part of this movement."

While advance registration is not required, participants are asked to register by Tuesday, Jan. 7 at wiu.edu/CITR/workshops.
