MACOMB/MOLINE, IL -- The Western Illinois University Board of Trustees voted to keep 2019-2020 tuition, room and meal plan rates level for incoming students at its May 6 Board meeting on the Macomb campus.

The 2020-2021 tuition rate for all incoming domestic undergraduate students will remain at $8,883 annually ($296.10 per credit hour, based on 30 credit hours). The 2020-2021 tuition rate for new domestic graduate students will remain at $339.82 per credit hour. The 2020-2021 room and meal plan for new students will stay at $9,800 (double room rate) per academic year.

The resolution to set 2020-2021 fees for new students failed; therefore, 2020-2021 fees for new students have not yet been set. An emergency meeting to discuss fees will be set (date TBD).

The WIU Cost Guarantee program ensures that undergraduate students will pay the same rate for tuition, fees, room and meal plan for their four years of continuous enrollment. Western's Cost Guarantee is the only public university program in Illinois that provides no increases in room and meal plan, in addition to the Illinois statutory requirement of guaranteed four-year tuition rates. Western Illinois also offers the Cost Guarantee to transfer and graduate students.

In other business, the Board authorized Carin Stutz, chair of the BOT Finance Sub-committee, to negotiate an extension to Interim President Martin Abraham's contract, which was set to end June 30, 2020, until the University's 12th president begins employment. The Board also approved hiring Greenwood/Asher to conduct the search for Western's 12th president. The Board had previously approved at its December 12, 2019 meeting an expenditure up to $250,000 for the search process.

In addition, the Board approved the collective bargaining agreements, which were ratified Jan. 20 and March 9, respectively, for the WIU Fraternal Order of Police. The Board also authorized the use of Auxiliary Facilities System (AFS) funds for non-System purposes, if necessary. Should the University need to take this temporary measure, the AFS funds would be returned as soon as financially possible.

The full agenda and meeting materials/documents can be found at wiu.edu/bot. The next Board meeting will be held June 11-12 at the WIU-Quad Cities campus in Moline.
