Social Justice Conversations for Higher Education Professionals Free Webinar Series

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - The GradCenter and Western Illinois University will host a Social Justice Conversation for Higher Education webinar series June 2-23. Participation is free.

The weekly series begins Tuesday, June 2, on the topic of "College Aspirations and Access in Working-Class, Rural Communities: The Mixed Signals, Challenges, and New Language First-Generation Students Encounter," presented by Sonja Ardoin, a learner, educator, facilitator or author. The series continues Tuesday, June 9, on the topic "Advancing Access and Engaging Equity in Community Colleges," presented by Eboni Zamani-Gallaher, director of the Office for Community College Research and Leadership.

The series continues Tuesday, June 16, on the topic "Actualizing Racial Justice and Decolonization in Settled and Turbulent Times," presented by WIU Assistant Professor Laila McCloud and Alex Lange, a current Ph.D. candidate in higher education and student affairs at the University of Iowa. The series will conclude Tuesday, June 23, on the topic "Honoring the "Face Behind the Mask": Interrogating Masculine Performatives to Promote Retention," presented by WIU Professor Tracy Davis, Keenan Colquitt, Jr., a college educator with experience in student affairs administration, gender studies, assessment and management and Vern Klobassa, director of student development and co-director of the First Year Experience at the University of St. Thomas - Minnesota. The series is open free to the public and happens from 1-2 p.m. each Tuesday in June.

This webinar series will introduce participants to experienced practitioners exploring equity and inclusion topics in higher education. Participants will leave with strategies and action steps.
