WIU NEWS3, the Proxy Report Nominated for National Annual Awards

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University's student-run broadcast news station, and the Proxy Report have been named as finalists for the annual National Undergraduate Student Electronic Media Competition, hosted by NBS, to be held in March in Atlanta, GA.

NEWS3 staffer Lyndsay Mach was nominated for the Web News Article category for her piece, "'For me to recover I've had to give': From prison to fatal fire to helping others," and the Proxy Report Student Staff was nominated for the Website category for The Proxy Report at theproxyreport.com, an online news aggregator featuring content from NEWS3 and original content by The Proxy Report student staff, which includes NEWS3 staff as well.

The annual National Electronic Media Association Student Competition Awards ceremony will be held during this year's NBS Conference. The conference consists of broadcasting workshops, guest speakers, and an awards ceremony.

NEWS3 is the student-run television station and The Proxy Report launched in September 2021, and is an online student news aggregator for student media work at WIU, both are located within the University's Department of Broadcasting and Journalism.

The prestigious competition boasts nominations of University of Florida, University of Indianapolis, Mississippi State University, Marshall University, West Texas A&M University, and several more. The judges for the NBS competition consisted of more than 60 current and past professionals in the field of broadcast and submissions were nominated based on receiving a set point total by the judges. Category winners will receive a trophy and other nominees will receive an Honorable Mention.
