MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Western Illinois University departments of Anthropology, Psychology and Sociology Academic Advisor Niall Hartnett has been named the Council of Academic Advisors (COAA) Advisor of the Month for February.

Hartnett received several nominations for the award, including from students and faculty.

"Niall has extended and updated his own academic background in psychology, and what courses best align with the range of options for our graduates," one nominator said. "He has developed several online and print resources to reflect the changing field, and to best prepare advisees for success after graduation."

Another nominee said Hartnett is knowledgeable about students' applications for graduate school.

"I have benefited from the trust and connection Niall creates with his advisees," the nominator added. "I have a student now in my lab that has shared with me she would not have considered the career path of a clinical psychologist if it were not for Niall believing in her abilities and guiding her through the resources the psychology department has to offer. He also goes above and beyond to create a community culture within the department."

Each month a WIU advisor will be honored with a certificate and trophy. Award winners are decided by a committee that considers the applications each month.
