Vaccine Clinic (WIU-Macomb Campus): April 26

MACOMB, IL – The McDonough County Health Department, in cooperation with Western Illinois University, will host a COVID-19 vaccination clinic (including boosters) for WIU faculty, staff and students, as well as members of the general public Tuesday, April 26 on the WIU-Macomb campus. Johnson & Johnson, Moderna and Pfizer vaccines will be available at no cost, and an appointment is not needed.

Booster recommendations are in place for the COVID-19 vaccines available in the United States. Individuals may choose which vaccine they receive as a booster dose. First and second shots, as well as boosters (including the fourth booster option), will be available at the WIU campus vaccination clinics.

The walk-in clinic will be held in the University Union Sandburg Lounge from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday, April 26.

The Rock Island County Health Department will offer walk-in vaccine clinics twice a week at its offices at 2112 25th Ave., Rock Island. The schedule is as follows: Moderna and Johnson & Johnson: Tuesdays, 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m.; Pfizer: Fridays, 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m.

In addition, healthcare and pharmacy partners continue to offer all three vaccines. To find a provider, visit vaccines.gov.

Booster information from the McDonough County Health Department:

A second booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine or Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine may be administered to individuals 50 years of age and older at least 4 months after receipt of a first booster dose of any authorized or approved COVID-19 vaccine.

A second booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine may be administered to individuals 12 years of age and older with certain kinds of immunocompromise at least 4 months after receipt of a first booster dose of any authorized or approved COVID-19 vaccine. These are people who have undergone solid organ transplantation, or who are living with conditions that are considered to have an equivalent level of immunocompromise.

A second booster dose of the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine may be administered at least 4 months after the first booster dose of any authorized or approved COVID-19 vaccine to individuals 18 years of age and older with the same certain kinds of immunocompromise.

People 18 through 49 years of age who are not moderately to severely immunocompromised and who received the Janssen vaccine for both their primary and first booster doses, may receive a second booster dose with an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine at least 4 months after their first Janssen booster dose.

WIU encourages members of the University community to take advantage of the free vaccination clinics. Supervisors are authorized to approve up to 60 minutes of release time from work for an employee to receive the vaccine. Proof of vaccination/appointment, presented to the supervisor, will be required to utilize the release time. Time off needed beyond 60 minutes should be reported as sick or vacation leave.
