WIU President Guiyou Huang: Turkey/Syrian Earthquake

Dear University Community,
As you have seen in the media, Turkey, Syria, and surrounding areas have been struck by a devastating earthquake, with the number of casualties surpassing 20,000.
Western Illinois University currently has one Turkish student enrolled and has sadly lost at least one alumnus, with several family and friends of the WIU community members also being affected. I want to take time to show our support for students, alumni, faculty, and family and friends who are suffering during this time.
Nelson Mandela said, "Our human compassion binds us – the one to the other – not in pity or patronizingly, but as human beings who have learned how to turn our common suffering into hope for the future."
