WIU Office of Study Abroad and Outreach to Host Clothing/Household Drive

MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University's Office of Study Abroad and Outreach is collecting winter clothing and household necessities for the new group of approximately 75-100 international students arriving this spring semester.

"Many international students arrive with few cold weather apparel and household necessities," WIU Director of Outreach Programs Sally Adams said.

Items can be dropped off from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3-Tuesday, Jan. 9 in Horrabin Hall, room eight. If the room is closed, individuals are encouraged to place items in or alongside the marked box located across the hall from room eight.

Accepted and needed items include:


  • Bathroom: shower curtains, garbage cans, towels, bath mats, soap dishes, toiletries

  • Bedroom: sheet sets, pillows, blankets, comforters

  • Winter apparel: coats, sweatshirts, long pants, long-sleeved shirts, socks, scarves, hats, earmuffs, gloves

  • Household: lamps, small furniture, laundry baskets, cleaning supplies, hangers, laundry soap

  • Kitchen: cooking utensils, eating utensils, dish towels, garbage cans, small appliances

  • Personal items: toilet paper, paper towels, wash clothes


Large furniture items can be donated by emailing globaloutreach@wiu.edu.

All fabric items must be prewashed, new or like-new. Items can be turned away upon donation. For questions, email the Office of Study Abroad and Outreach at globaloutreach@wiu.edu.
