WIU Celebrates Black History Month

MACOMB, IL - - Throughout February, Western Illinois University will celebrate Black History Month with a schedule full of events.

This week, Feb. 5-9, WIU recognizes the MLK Week of Service in celebration of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through a volunteering and service collaboration with the Office of Student Engagement (OSE).

Other campus events hosted by the Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center (GBCC) include:

Saturday, Feb. 10, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., WIU Multicultural Center: Black Student Association (BSA) Breakfast

Wednesday, Feb 14, 2-4 p.m., Multicultural Center: Paint & Sip, Día de San Valentín, in collaboration with Casa Latina

Friday, Feb. 16, 7-10 p.m., The Neck (lower level of the University Union): Barbershop Talk

Saturday, Feb. 17, 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m., University Union: Leadership Conference, in collaboration with OSE

Tuesday, Feb. 20, 6:30-8 p.m., Morgan Hall, room 109: National Parks Presentation

Saturday, Feb. 24, 9 p.m.-1 a.m., Multicultural Center: Greek Stroll Off, "MCC After Hours" Masquerade Party

Wednesday, Feb. 28, 5-6:30 p.m., Multicultural Center: Black Queers in Leadership, in collaboration with the LGBT*QA Resource Center

Thursday, Feb. 29, 5-7 p.m., The Neck: Open Mic Night, in collaboration with the Women's Center
