Business Dean Beveridge To Retire

MACOMB, IL – M. David Beveridge, dean of Western Illinois University’s College of Business and Technology (CBT), has announced his decision to retire. He will begin a terminal leave on Nov. 1, 2004 and retire from the University on April 30, 2005.
Beveridge, who joined WesternÂ’s faculty in 1969 as an assistant professor in the department of management, was named dean of the college in 1995. He served as chair of the management department in 1971 and was named assistant dean in 1972. Beveridge served as assistant dean for eight years, then as associate dean. He also was the assistant provost and academic vice president at Western for 10 years and served as acting provost during Fall 1993.
During his years as CBT dean, Beveridge was instrumental in bringing the college into the global arena developing more than 20 international agreements with colleges in Mexico, Chile, Canada, England, Holland, Russia and Brazil. He was instrumental in helping the college receive more than $1.5 million in grants from such agencies as the United States Agency for International Development, the United States Department of State, the Illinois Board of Higher Education and the United States Department of Education to establish learning opportunities overseas for students, faculty and staff. In addition, it was during BeveridgeÂ’s tenure the college received continuing accreditation from AACSB-International of its undergraduate and graduate business programs and initial accreditation of its undergraduate and graduate programs in accounting.
“Dr. Beveridge has served the University well in his many roles throughout the years,” said Western Illinois Provost Joseph Rallo. “He has established the college as a global learning center and has provided faculty and students with tremendous international learning opportunities.”
An interim dean will be named soon. A national search will take place during the 2004-2005 academic year to select a permanent dean for the College of Business and Technology.
