WIU ROTC Cadets Commissioned Second Lieutenants

MACOMB, IL - - Seven Western Illinois University Reserve Officer's Training Corps (ROTC) cadets were commissioned second lieutenants in the U.S. Army during a Dec. 17 ceremony in the University Union.
The ceremony included the pinning on of the second lieutenant gold bar by family and friends selected by the cadet.
WIU's military science department, established in 1968, is regarded among the top programs nationwide. In December 2000 Western earned its second consecutive General Douglas MacArthur Award and received a top 20 ranking among all 270 U.S. Army Cadet Command programs nationwide.
The MacArthur Award, given jointly by the MacArthur Foundation and the commander of the United States Army Cadet Command, is presented annually to the top programs in each of Cadet Command's three regions. Western earned the award as the best large division program in the Second Region, headquartered at Ft. Knox, KY, which consists of 88 schools in 14-states. Western also earned the MacArthur Award in 1994.
The following individuals, listed by hometown, took the oath of office of a commissioned officer:
BRIGHTON, IL - Michael E. Delp Jr., a Board of Trustees major, received a reserve duty commission in Adjutant General. He will attend Officer Basic Course at a later date. 2LT Delp is the son of Michael E. Delp and the late Jerry Smith. Delps father and stepmother, Angela, pinned on his bars.
CARPENTERSVILLE, IL - Arthur A. Miller III, a recreation, park and tourism administration major, received a reserve duty commission in Field Artillery. He will attend Field Artillery Officer Basic Course in February 2005. 2LT Miller is the son of Ronna and Arthur A. Miller Jr., who pinned on his bars.
ELDRIDGE, IA - Corey F. Willie, a law enforcement and justice administration major received an active duty commission in the Ordnance Corps. He will attend his Ordnance Officer Basic Course in February 2005. 2LT Willie is the son of Arthur and Julie Willie. CPT David Peterson pinned on Willies bars.
KEWANEE, IL - Chad M. Forsythe, a law enforcement and justice administration major, received an active duty commission in Air Defense Artillery. He will attend Air Defense Artillery Officer Basic Course in January 2005. 2LT Forsythe is the son of Janice Forsythe and Larry Forsythe of Winterhaven, FL. Forsythes wife, Amanda, pinned on his bars.
PROPHETSTOWN, IL - Nicholas J. Roman, a law enforcement and justice administration major received a reserve duty commission in Military Police Corps. He will attend Military Police Officer Basic Course in March 2005. 2LT Roman is the son of Thomas and Lynn Roman, who pinned on his bars.
SPRINGFIELD, IL - Charissa G. Cassagnol, a communications major, received an active duty commission in the Ordnance Branch. She will attend Ordnance Officer Basic Course at a later date. 2LT Cassagnol is the daughter of Pam Cassagnol and Gabriel Cassagnol. Cassagnols mother and sister, Lisa, pinned on her bars.
WATAGA, IL - Krista M. Mansir, a psychology major, received an active duty commission in Aviation. She will attend Aviation Officer Basic Course in January 2005. 2LT Mansir is the daughter of Rex and Judith Hepner. Mansirs father; grandfather, Elbert Dewitt; and her husband, 2LT Richard Mansir, pinned on her bars.
