MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University accountancy students took their knowledge on the road recently to the annual Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) Student Leadership Conference.

Three members of WIU's Student Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants (SCIMA) attended the conference, along with accountancy faculty Amy Ford, SCIMA's faculty adviser, and George Peek, WIU's IMA academic mentor.

Western students included Megan Dailey, a junior from Lewistown (IL); James Kveton, a senior from Sandwich (IL); and Ray Horn, a senior from Oakford (IL). The trio led roundtable breakout sessions on the benefits of an IMA student chapter and provided suggestions for improving chapter activities.

According to WIU Accountancy Department Chair John Elfrink, the students were selected as leaders because WIU's chapter won the Gold Award of Excellence in 2006. In addition to leading the roundtable sessions, the students each received Student Leadership Awards from the IMA Mid-America Council to attend the conference, as well as additional funding from their parent chapter, the IMA ILLOWA Chapter in the Quad Cities.
