WIU To Hold 13th Annual Soul Food Festival

MACOMB, IL --The 13th Annual Soul Food Festival, a highlight of Western Illinois University’s Black History Month celebration, will be held Saturday, Feb. 17 in the University Union Lamoine Room.

The festival will begin with a 5:30 p.m. social; dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. The menu includes smothered chicken, fried pork chop with papaya chutney, candied yams, baked macaroni and cheese, black-eyed peas, corn bread, biscuits, blackberry cobbler, banana pudding, tossed salad, waldorf salad, fruit slush punch, coffee and tea.

Advance tickets are $7 for students and $15 for the public. Reservations are due Friday, Feb. 9. For reservations made after Feb. 9 add $1 to the ticket price (only if space is still available). Checks can be made payable to the Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center Foundation. The event is sponsored by the Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center and is open to the public.
