MACOMB, IL - - A successful and rewarding career in agriculture awaits! High school and transfer students have the opportunity to discover what Western Illinois University's agriculture department has to offer at the department's Spring 2009 Open House, slated for 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Friday, March 6 at Western's Macomb campus.

In addition to its recognized curriculum, WIU's agriculture department provides a variety of ways for students to get involved in agriculture-related activities outside of the classroom, including the largest student-run agriculture show in the United States -- the annual Farm Expo -- organized by the Ag Mech Club; a variety of ag-related clubs and organizations to get involved in, including the Agriculture Education Club, the Agribusiness Club, Alpha Gamma Rho and the Collegiate FFA; and opportunities for hands-on activities at WIU's farm and research facilities.

According to the organizers, the Spring 2009 Agriculture Open House will feature comments from William Bailey, ag department chair, faculty members and current students, who will speak about life in the department and on campus. In addition, tours of the campus and of the University Farm and Livestock Center will be a part of the day's activities. The March 6 event will kick off with a complimentary lunch. Each participant will have his or her name entered into a $100 scholarship drawing, and two scholarships will be given away at the event.
