WIU Ag Mech Club's 41st Farm Expo Opens Feb. 12

MACOMB, IL -- The 41st Annual Farm Expo at Western Illinois University is slated for the weekend of Feb. 12 on WIU's Macomb campus. The largest student-run farm show in the United States, the WIU Farm Expo will offer plenty to see and do in WIU's Western Hall. Organized by the School of Agriculture's Ag Mechanization Club, the Farm Expo's 2011 hours are from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12 and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13.

The two-day event will feature emerging ag technology, tractors and machinery, livestock equipment and supplies, crop supplies, as well as information about ag sales and service, conservation methods, ag structures and much more.

Rita Frazer, ag director at WSMI Radio (Litchfield, IL), will deliver the keynote address at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12. Her speech is entitled "Connections."

For the kids and crafters, a farm toy and craft show will also be held both days in the upper concourse of Western Hall. According to the 2011 Farm Expo website, many varieties of toy tractors, cars, trucks, scale models and crafts will be on display, and vendors from around the Midwest will be present. A quilt raffle drawing (see "Ag Council Quilt Raffle to Raise Funds for Ag Banquet" at www.wiu.edu/news/newsrelease.php?release_id=8697) will be held on Feb. 13, as well.

The Ag Mech Club's 41st Annual Farm Expo is open free to the public, and free parking will be available in WIU's Q-Lot located on the east side of Western Hall.
