Robbery Update: Arrest Made for False Report

MACOMB, IL -- Upon conducting the investigation into the alleged strong-armed robbery report from Sept. 7, the alleged victim, nonstudent Mark A. Smock, 23, of Colchester, was arrested this evening (Sept. 8) on felony charges for filing a false police report.

After further questioning by police officers, Smock admitted to fabricating the report. He was lodged in the McDonough County Jail.

Timely Warning: Robbery

MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University Director of Public Safety Bob Fitzgerald has issued a notice regarding a recent strong-armed robbery near Henninger Hall of a local delivery driver.

According to OPS, a delivery driver reported that at approximately 9:30 p.m. tonight (Sept. 7) after he delivered food to the residence hall, he was approached by a male subject who demanded food or money. The assailant struck the driver in the face and robbed him of cash and checks. No weapons were involved, and the individual did not sustain injuries that required medical treatment. The driver returned to the restaurant a short time later and reported the incident to the manager, who then contacted OPS.

While officers believe this is an isolated incident, individuals should report suspicious activity immediately and remain alert to their surroundings.

Individuals with information about this incident should call Macomb police at 833-4505, Public Safety at 298-1949 or Crime Stoppers at 836-3222. An investigation of the reported incident is ongoing.
