MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University Vice President of Student Services administrative aide Beth Oakley has been chosen as the April 2012 Civil Service Employee of the Month.

Oakley began at WIU in April 1987 as a typing clerk III in Student Residential Programs. Just over one year later she was promoted to secretary III and was later reclassified to secretary IV and staff secretary.

In December 1997, Oakley was reassigned to the office of the Vice President of Student Services and in 2005 she was reclassified as an administrative secretary. In October 2006, she was reassigned to her current position.

Oakley's nominators said she works with a "great deal of professionalism."

"Simply put, if it wasn't for Beth, our office would struggle in its daily operations," her nominators said. "There is rarely a week that goes by that almost every director within the division doesn't either call or visit Beth for either information or advice. She manages the schedules and workload of a high-traffic and visible office and does so without complaint."

Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for this monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) Public Relations Representative Wendi Mattson at WK-Mattson@wiu.edu.
