Careers in Aging Week Activities Planned at Western in April

MACOMB, IL – In an effort to highlight the shortage of people trained to work with America's aging population, Western Illinois University will host Careers in Aging Week, Sunday, April 7 – Saturday, April 13.
The event is an annual joint venture between The Gerontological Society of America and the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education. Activities planned as part of the event include providing information about the field's available professions and the academic programming needed for the career field.
Representatives from Macomb's long term care community will be in the University Union Concourse from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Monday, April 8, to distribute information about careers and internship opportunities, including The Elms, Wesley Village, Everly House and the Adult Day Health Program at McDonough District Hospital. At the same time, the WIU Gerontology Club will have a table set up in the Union to distribute information about careers and the gerontology minor at Western.
The WIU Gerontology Club will show the movie, "Complaints of a Dutiful Daughter," by Deborah Hoffmann, at 3 p.m. April 8 in the Union's Cardinal Oak Room, following the displays and activities that day.
The film chronicles the various stages Alzheimer's disease and the evolution of a daughter's response to her mother's illness. There will be discussion following the film, led by Susan Johnson from the "Alternatives for the Older Adult" organization. Light
