WIU Professor Named One of the Faces of Penn State

MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois University Journalism Professor Yong Tang has been named one of the Faces of Penn State and is featured on the university's website.
Tang, who holds a doctorate degree from Penn State, is highlighted in a feature called "Yong Tang: Using Education to Fight Poverty and Enrich his Students' Lives." The Faces of Penn State program, "showcases the personal accomplishments, public contributions and pioneering spirit resulting from the Penn State experience, education and community."
Tang, who in 2012 was named one of the top journalism professors by journalismdegree.org, was recognized for having grown up without radio, television, newspapers or magazines. He was born in a village in Sichuan Province, China, and fought through poverty to become a professor of journalism and mass media law.
"I am so excited to be selected to represent Penn State," Tang said of the honor. "Many of the Faces of Penn State are notable names with extraordinary abilities and outstanding accomplishments: Nobel prize winner, international Olympic medalist, Miss Pennsylvania, internationally renowned scientists, etc. I want to take this opportunity to thank my adviser Dr. Martin E. Halstuk and other professors who taught me at Penn State. They, together with many educators in China, made me what I am today."
Tang received his second doctorate degree in mass communications from Penn State. Before undertaking a teaching career, Tang worked for more than 10 years as an award-winning journalist at People's Daily, China's largest and most politically influential newspaper.
Before attending Penn State, Tang received bachelor's degrees from Sichuan International Studies University and the China School of Journalism and his master's degree from George Washington University. His first doctorate degree came from Communication University of China.
