WIU Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures Awards First Vivian D. Kline Scholarships

MACOMB, IL - Five students have been awarded Vivian D. Kline Scholarships for foreign language majors.

The inaugural winners include current students Erik Binder, a senior Spanish major from Pleasant Plains, IL; Isamar Chavez, a senior bilingual/bicultural education major from Beardstown, IL; Paris Hamm, a junior biology and French double major from Macomb and Lindsey Kuitse, a freshman Spanish major from South Bend, IN, and incoming freshman, Sarah Keck, of Macomb.

Awards range from $2,000 to $4,000 per academic year and are renewable. The scholarships are funded by a bequest from Vivian Diana Kline (Diana). Kline attended Western Academy in Macomb, the high school division of Stephens College in Columbia, MO, and went on to complete her first two years of undergraduate training in the same school.

She received her bachelor's and master's degrees in art from the University of North Carolina.
