Fossil Exposition April 12-14 at WIU

MACOMB, IL - - Ever wonder what the jaws of a man-eating dinosaur looked like? Find out Friday, April 12 through Sunday, April 14 when Chicago Field Museum staff will display a recent find during the nation's largest annual fossil exhibition, hosted by Western Illinois University.
A cast of the skull from the large predatory dinosaur "Majungatholus" unearthed in 1996 in Madagascar, and scores of fossils to buy, sell and trade will be featured at the National Fossil Expo XXIV, sponsored by the Mid America Paleontological Society (MAPS).
The Expo, with the theme "Fossil Tracks, Trails and Traces," is open free to the public. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 12-13; and from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday, April 14 in the WIU Union Grand Ballroom.
Noted researcher Stephen Hasiotis, a professor of geology at the University of Kansas, will give the keynote talk "Tracks, Trails and Traces" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 13 in the Grand Ballroom.
The Expo annually attracts exhibitors, research professionals and collectors from across the U.S., Canada, Europe and Australia; national and regional fossil clubs; scholarly research organizations; as well as representatives and purchasing agents from major natural history museums.
Elementary, secondary and community college groups are encouraged to attend the Expo, visit the WIU geology department open house and tour the WIU Museum of Geology. The department's open house will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. More information about WIU's geology department and museum is available on the web at www.wiu.edu/users/migeol.
