MACOMB, IL – Bob Bahr, a physical science technical assistant in the WIU Department of Chemistry, has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for November.

Bahr was hired at WIU in August 2002 at his current position. His nominators called him the "essential thread" and the "go-to" person in the Department of Chemistry.

"All of the faculty go to him for special needs in their teaching or research labs because he is extremely creative in solving problems and building special laboratory systems," his nominator said. "Bob's enthusiasm is very infections, and he is always optimistic. He looks for ways to avoid problems, make the best of any situation and deal with budgetary issues with a smile. He also finds time for University and community service. Bob's positive work ethic and enthusiasm lifts the spirits of the students, faculty and staff of the Chemistry Department."

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque. The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year.

Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Alisha Barnett at AA-Barnett@wiu.edu.
