Graduate Research Conference to be Held at WIU Feb. 7

MACOMB, IL – The inaugural Graduate Research Conference at Western Illinois University will be held Friday Feb. 7 in the University Union as part of Graduate Research Week.

Organizers said the conference, which will feature presentations by 65 WIU graduate student researchers, was formed to "celebrate discipline-specific research, as well as interdisciplinary engagement that encourages collaboration and professional networking among faculty and students across campus."

All WIU graduate students were eligible to submit an abstract for this year's conference. The submissions were then reviewed by a committee of graduate faculty members.

Among the 65 accepted, there will be 32 poster presentations, 30 podium presentations and two performances from students in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), the College of Business and Technology (CBT), the College of Education and Human Services (COEHS) and the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC). Awards will presented in each of the three presentation categories.

The awards reception is sponsored by the WIU CAS and the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Other event sponsors include the WIU Billing and Receivables Office, the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Research, CBT, COEHS, the WIU Department of Psychology, the First Year Experience committee, Human Resources, the Institute for Environmental Studies, the Scholarship Office, the Undergraduate Admissions Office, the University Bookstore and University Relations.

The schedule for this year's conference includes:
• 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. – Concurrent sessions in the Fox, Dusable and small conference rooms
• 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. – Poster sessions in the Heritage Room
• 12:30 – 3 p.m. – Concurrent sessions in the Fox, Dusable and small conference rooms
3:30 p.m. – Keynote address by WIU Computer Science Professor In Lee in the Capitol Room. Lee will speak about "Habits of Effective Researchers."

The awards reception will follow the keynote address in the Lincoln Room.
