MACOMB, IL — This week, Western Illinois University emergency management students on the Macomb campus will hear first hand how the City of Washington, IL, is faring after the EF-4 tornado struck that community last November. Washington City Administrator Tim Gleason will present "Reflections on the 2013 Tornado: Three Months after the Disaster" from 11:15 a.m.-noon Thursday, Feb. 27 in Stipes Hall, room 213.

According to Jack Rozdilsky, emergency management assistant professor and program coordinator, faculty and students in Western's emergency management program are working with the City of Washington on some of that community's disaster-recovery efforts.

"Tim is one of the government officials who has played a key role in the first three months of the city's disaster response and recovery," Rozdilsky noted.

The community of Washington, located in Tazewell County, suffered devastating results from the tornado, including three fatalities, numerous injuries and more than 1,000 structures severely damaged, Rozdilsky added.

Gleason has served as Washington's city administrator since November 2012. He also serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Illinois-Springfield and as a board member on the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board.

Gleason's presentation is open free to the public and is hosted by the WIU Emergency Management Student Organization (the Illinois Emergency Services Management Association-Student Chapter) and Western's emergency management program in the health sciences department.
