MACOMB, IL -- Picture this: 48 faculty members armed with cameras and computers roaming the Western Illinois University campus in a race to produce movies. That's exactly what is scheduled to happen during the College of Education and Human Services (COEHS) iFair Friday, April 26.

Led by the "Faculty Innovators for Teaching and Learning," each academic department in the college will be challenged to form a team of four faculty members and create a custom multimedia presentation using Apple Computer's suite of "i" products (iPhoto, iTunes, iDVD and iMovie). Apple representative Ed Cranston will begin with an 8 a.m. demonstration of the new iMac as a digital hub. The fun will officially begin at 9:30 a.m. when teams are released to gather photos, video footage and a soundtrack to create an iMovie. All movie materials must be obtained and put together on that day with final production submission at 1 p.m. Teams and judges will reconvene at 3 p.m. in Horrabin Hall 1 to review the productions and announce the winners.

The COEHS Faculty Innovators program began in Spring 2001 to develop a cadre of technology champions within the college. Twenty-four faculty members from 11 departments received wireless laptop computers and have participated in training and exploration in the use of the laptops as teaching and learning tools. Faculty Innovators are asked to recruit two additional faculty members from their departments to form the iFair team.

iFair is sponsored by WIU's CATALISE project, funded by the U.S. Department of Education's (USDE) Preparing Teachers to Use Technology Program. Co-sponsors include the Center for the Application of Information Technologies (CAIT) and Apple Computer.
