Gloria Delaney-Barmann, associate professor of educational and interdisciplinary studies, received the 2002 "Excellence in Multicultural Programming" Employee Award for her teaching, scholarship and service to the University, and for incorporating multiculturalism and diversity into every aspect of her life. Janine Cavicchia, WIU Women's Center director, was also named a recipient of the 2002 "Excellence in Multicultural Programming" Employee Award for her extraordinary efforts in providing continuous multicultural programming to the campus community and for giving different groups a voice for their issues and concerns.

Also recognized were Macomb School Superintendent Fran Karanovich who was noted for her broad-based awareness raising initiatives that facilitate real change; Tanner Hall head staff and resident assistants for their continuing work to promote diversity and respect within their hall; and the Higgins, Corbin and Olson hall staffs and governments for organizing H.A.T.E. The 2002 Affirmative Action Director's Award was presented to Jeri Scott, director of human resources at WIU. According to Affirmative Action Officer Cathy Couza, Scott "has fully incorporated the principles that promote equal opportunity and affirmative action into her professional life."

"Jeri is a person of the highest integrity and professionalism. She has worked tirelessly to promote diversity as a member of the campus community, through her own participation in programs and activities and her encouragement of her staff as well," Couza added. "She leads by example."

Scott has been director of human resources since 1993. She joined WIU as a personnel officer in 1976.
