Services Set for Biology Professor Emeritus Te-Hsiu Ma

*UPDATE: A memorial service for Western Illinois University Biological Sciences Professor Emeritus Te-Hsui Ma will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at Wesley United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be made to the WIU Biological Science Department, Wesley United Methodist Church or McDonough District Hospital Hospice Program.

MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University Biological Sciences Professor Emeritus Te-Hsiu Ma, 90, passed away Monday, March 30 in Macomb.
Ma joined Western's biology faculty in 1964. While he retired in 1997, he maintained his laboratory for many years and increased his international activities. Ma developed a Trad-MCN bioassay in 1976, and over the course of his career, he conducted 89 workshops around the world, training scientists on three simple and effective genetic tests, under the auspices of the International Program on Plant Bioassays.
He authored hundreds of articles for professional publications, and presented at hundreds of conferences nationally and internationally. Ma also obtained grants, totaling well over $600,000, during his tenure at WIU, and served as a consultant for the National Cancer Institute and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Ma was a renowned botanist, and in 2004, he was responsible for bringing more than 30 scientists from 14 world nations to WIU for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Advanced Study Institute (ASI).
He was also an accomplished artist.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; sons Lyndon. Lindsey and Linwood; daughter Linette Chamberlain; and nine grandchildren.
