MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Chemistry Club, as student affiliates of the American Chemistry Society (ACS), recently received an honorable mention for its 2014-2015 activities.

WIU Department of Chemistry Chair Rose McConnell said from the more than 400 student affiliate reports submitted to ACS, WIU was near the top.

"We want to give congratulations to the hard-working students, and to Hannah Drake, club president, as well as to faculty club sponsor Brian Bellott for receiving this recognition from our national office," said McConnell.

The WIU club currently has 35 members and has been in existence at the University since 1952.

"The WIU Chemistry Club is an extremely active group of students who strive to share their love of science and chemistry with others," said McConnell. "They team with the WIU Physics Club to do a 'magic show' of science demonstrations every fall that always attracts a packed house of elementary, middle school and junior high kids from the local area."

Club members also volunteer extensively in the community.
