MACOMB, IL — The role of women in public service and government is the subject of the fourth annual Women's History Month panel discussion at Western Illinois University. Sponsored by Western Illinois University Libraries and the WIU Department of History, the event, "Women in Public Service and Government: American and Global Perspectives," is set to start at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 24 in the Leslie F. Malpass Library Garden Lounge and is open free to the public.

Panelists include WIU history faculty, including: Ginny Boynton, professor; Ute Chamberlin, associate professor; Ginny Jelatis, associate professor; and Febe Pamonag, associate professor. During the event, the history scholars will discuss women's contributions to public service and politics from a national and global historical perspective.

"Long before Hillary Clinton became a U.S. presidential candidate, women have been advocates and shapers of their own political destinies," noted Christina Norton, outreach librarian and coordinator of the event. "I would encourage anyone to attend who wants to know more about how women from the past contributed to public service in their own eras, as well as to the world we inhabit today."

For more information, contact Norton at CA-Norton@wiu.edu or at (309) 298-3298.
