MACOMB, IL -- The John Deere Foundation in Moline recently donated $15,000 to Western Illinois University’s supply chain management program (SCM).

According to WIU marketing and finance department chair Fred Ebeid, this is just one of Deere's recent donations to the SCM program at WIU. The educational alliance was established in April 1999 with an $8,000 donation, followed by an additional donation of $11,000 in October 1999. In 2000, Deere pledged a $9,000 donation to the SCM program and in April 2001, donated an additional $10,000 to the program, bringing the total to $53,000 in just three years. Funds are used to support curriculum and faculty development, internships, and scholarships.

During the past several years, numerous WIU supply chain management students have completed internships at Deere & Company. Every intern was offered a position in supply management at Deere.

"We are very appreciative of Deere & Company's continued generosity and promotion of the supply chain management program at WIU," Ebeid said. "These alliances are indispensable as they provide our students an opportunity to blend real-world experiences with strong academic preparation."
