WIU Department of English Hosting Creative Writing Awards

MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Department of English is accepting submissions for three creative writing awards.

Entries for the three awards are being accepted until Friday, March 10 in Simpkins Hall, room 124.

The awards include:

The Lois C. Bruner Creative Nonfiction Award: Essays can include life experiences, in categories such as travelogue, memoir, biography, autobiography, nature writing or cultural critique. One essay of up to 5,000 words can be submitted.

The Cordell Larner Award in Fiction: One essay of up to 5,000 words on any topic can be submitted.

The Cordell Larner Award in Poetry: Up to three poems in any form or style can be submitted.

Entries are judged by professional writers and winning authors will be awarded cash prizes and automatically published in the department's creative writing literary magazine, "Elements."

All entrants will be invited to the English awards ceremony on Thursday, April 20 to receive their prize, award and honorable mentions.

The contest is open to undergraduate students, regardless of major.
