MACOMB, IL --The chair of Western Illinois University's department of community health and heath services management has been invited to join an Illinois committee devoted to health training.

Fred Randolph will represent the public health academic community for the Mid-America Public Health Training Center, which is part of a nationwide initiative to improve the public health workforce. The primary goal of the center is to create a comprehensive and integrated approach to the training of public health employees in Illinois and Indiana.

"I am excited to be a part of this group and to lend my opinion from the academic side. There are terrific opportunities in public health out there and it's essential that we provide well-trained quality professionals to agencies and organizations," Randolph said.

Randolph came to Western in 1982 and was appointed to department chair in 1998. Prior to joining the WIU faculty, he taught at Central Michigan University and Purdue University. Randolph received his doctorate from Southern Illinois University.
