Polubinsky Named Interim Chair of WIU Department of Kinesiology

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University Professor of Kinesiology Renee Polubinsky has been named the interim chair of the WIU Department of Kinesiology, effective July 1, according to College of Education and Human Services (COEHS) Dean Erskine Smith.

Polubinsky joined the WIU faculty in 2002 as an assistant professor. She has served as the director of Western's athletic training program since 2002.

During her time at WIU, Polubinsky has published multiple refereed articles, received two grants and has presented at state, regional and national conferences. She currently serves on the Illinois Board of Athletic Trainers and the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations for the Athletic Training State Board, is a member of the critical incident stress management team for the Illinois Athletic Trainers Association and is a member McDonough County's Health Department medical reserve corp.

She received the COEHS and Provost Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2007, the COEHS Award for Excellence in Service in 2011 and the COEHS and Provost Award for Excellence in Service in 2016. In 2016, she received the Illinois Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame Award, and she received the 2017 Athletic Trainer Service Award from the National Athletic Trainers' Association.

Prior to joining WIU, Polubinsky served as an assistant athletic trainer for the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee and the coordinator of athletic training services at Advanced Health Care in Milwaukee, WI. She also served as an assistant professor, associate athletic trainer and clinical coordinator at Concordia University in Mequon, WI.

Polubinsky earned her doctorate in health care education, with an emphasis in athletic training, from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

She earned an M.Ed. in health promotion and cardiovascular fitness from University of Cincinnati and her B.S. in physical education with an emphasis in athletic training from University Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
