MACOMB, IL – The Commission on Accreditation (COA) has extended the accreditation of Western Illinois University's undergraduate social work program for another eight years, until June 2024.

The accreditation was approved at the COA's June meeting.

The WIU program is part of the WIU Department of Health Sciences and Social Work.

"Reaffirmation of WIU's BSW program by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) is very important to the success and growth of the program," said WIU Department of Health Sciences and Social Work Chair Lorette Oden. "It is an honor to have the program reaffirmed for another eight years. This indicates the BSW program is achieving and maintaining the rigorous educational standards set forth by the accrediting body. The Department of Health Sciences and Social Work is providing high quality education to BSW students to assist them with achieving their goals of obtaining a BSW degree and successfully beginning social work careers after commencement."

The COA accreditation is completed through the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), the national accrediting body of the social work education. Its membership includes more than 760 bachelor's and master's degree social work programs in the United States, as well as social work educators, practitioners and agencies.
