WIU Jazz Festival Feb. 15-17

MACOMB, IL -- The 45th annual Western Illinois University Jazz Festival will be held Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 15-17 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall.
 
There will be a jam session at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15 at Sports Corner @124, 124 N. Randolph St., Macomb.
 
Friday's concert, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16 in the COFAC Recital Hall, will feature WIU's Jazz Band and the Jazz Studio Orchestra (JSO), as well as guest artist Leroy Jones, a trumpet virtuoso who began playing the trumpet at age 10. In 1974, Jones was a part of the Hurricane Brass Band. Jones has been on several tours and, since 2004, he has appeared with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Dr. John. He previously toured with Eddie Vinson and Della Reese, before forming his own group, the Leroy Jones Quintet.

In 1991, Jones joined the big band of Harry Connick, Jr. and later released his first album, "Mo' Cream from the Crop," in 1994.
 
Saturday will feature performances by college, high school and junior high school students in the COFAC Recital Hall. Jones will again perform with JSO.
 
Admission for Friday's concert is $15 for the general public, $10 for senior citizens, $7 for youth and WIU students are admitted free with valid University identification.
 
Events will be live streamed through the University's YouTube Channel for anyone who is unable to attend.
