MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Chemistry Club will host "Opioids: Fighting Addiction with Chemistry" at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27 in Currens Hall 203.

The webinar, by the American Chemical Society (ACS), is open free to the public. The broadcast will explain what makes opioids so addictive, the treatments and medications used to help those who are addicted and profile the work chemists are doing to make prescription pain killers safer and harder to abuse.

"We are hosting this event because Chemistry Club aims to educate people about chemistry and its importance, and this event is an easy and interesting way of teaching people about how chemistry can impact everyday life," said Chemistry Club member Nicole Walker, a senior forensic chemistry major from Lake Zurich, IL.

The WIU Chemistry Club is a student affiliate of the ACS. Its members strive to share their love of science and chemistry and volunteer extensively in the community.
