2003 Ag Mech Show

MACOMB, IL -- Ag mech. It's not just for farmers anymore.
The 33rd annual Agriculture Mechanization Show at Western Illinois University, the largest student-run farm show in the United States, will be held Saturday and Sunday,
Jan. 25-26 in Western Hall on the WIU campus. The two-day event, organized and conducted by WIU Agriculture Mechanization Club members and agriculture students, will feature farm tractors and machinery, livestock equipment and supplies, ag sales and service, conservation methods, crafts, a blood drive, a tree climbing demonstration, guest speakers and much more. More than 225 exhibitors will participate.
Alan Jarand, radio director of the Illinois Farm Bureau's RFD program, will speak at the opening ceremony beginning at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25.
In addition to the expo and Jarand's appearance, a farm toy and craft show will be held in the upper level of Western Hall. If all that isn't enough to keep participants entertained, WIU agriculture associate professor Tom Green will provide a hands-on tree climbing demonstration during both days of the show.
The McDonough County Red Cross will host a blood drive during the show and the McDonough District Hospital will sponsor skin cancer screenings. The Illinois Department of Agriculture will feature interactive displays both days.
Presenters for the 2003 Ag Mech Show include: Hart's Nursery employees, water garden design, 2:30-3:30 p.m., Jan. 25 and 11 a.m.-noon, Jan. 26; Tim Tygrett of the Roseville FFA and FFA National Tractor Restoration Contest winner, 1:30-2:30 p.m., Jan. 25 and
1-2 p.m. Jan. 26; Terry Griffin of the University of Illinois Extension, Global Positioning System and Geographic Information Systems in precision farming, 12:30-1:30 p.m., Jan. 25; and Beeline Software Company, CAT auto guidance system, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Jan. 25 and noon-1 p.m., Jan. 26.
The Ag Mech Show will take place 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26. Admission and parking are free.
