MACOMB, IL - -Western Illinois University's Exercise Science program has been approved as an NSCA ERP (National Strength and Conditioning Association Education Recognition Program) Recognized Undergraduate Strength and Conditioning Program, according to Kinesiology Department Chair Renee Polubinsky.

WIU Department of Kinesiology Assistant Professor Tim Piper, program director of Western's National Strength and Conditioning Association chapter, said the NSCA ERP is the "gold standard" in program recognition for the field of study.

"The ERP distinguishes Western's Exercise Science program from other kinesiology programs," said Piper. "The program prepares students for the NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer and NSCA-Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certifications. It helps keep the curriculum and students current with the trends of the profession."

The recognition allows students and faculty to take advantage of many benefits, such as discounts for certification exams, preparation clinics and conferences. It also provides students the opportunity for grants, scholarships, internships and assistantships.

"The program prepares students through excellence in the classroom and for professional positions," said Polubinsky. "The students are prepared through best practices, professional development and scholarship opportunities. Our faculty work hard to provide the best possible education to the students and to fulfill the expectations of higher values in higher education at Western Illinois University."
